Black Belt Training

After completing the Green Belt training, you have started applying your acquired Lean knowledge in practice. Now you want more and are ready for the next step. Building on the Green Belt, the Black Belt training teaches you how to apply advanced Lean techniques. Your role in Lean projects also shifts from project team member to project lead. You become a connector between different parts of the organization and continuously think from a value stream perspective. Some of your predecessors now even deliver Lean training themselves. During the training, you will achieve concrete results for your organization.

The Masters in Lean Black Belt program offers an in-depth extension of the Lean Green Belt training. On the one hand, it dives deeper into familiar tools, and on the other, you will learn many new principles that further strengthen your Lean skills. The program ensures a level of knowledge that enables you to independently lead Lean projects within your organization, providing direction on both the behavioral aspects and process improvement. In addition, the program prepares you for the accompanying exam that leads to the certification Certified Black Belt in Lean (CBBL®), issued by the International Independent Board for Lean Certification (IIBLC®).

Who is it for?

This Black Belt training follows on from the Green Belt. With the Black Belt program, you will learn and experience what a Lean transformation truly entails, with a focus on the long-term vision of the organization. As a Black Belt, you are able to initiate and lead Lean initiatives within your organization at a value stream level. You understand better than anyone how important it is to engage people on the shop floor in the Lean transformation and know how to enthuse, train, and guide others.

The day program consists of six training days, an exam, and two follow-up days with intervision. After this, a trajectory follows in which the theory is applied in practice. Depending on your familiarity with the material, the total study load per module is estimated at approximately 100 hours. The training is delivered in a classroom setting.

After this training, you will be able to:

  • Independently guide a Lean transformation trajectory

  • Apply Lean within your organization to identify, analyze, and address process-related problems

  • Apply Lean tools and techniques that are essential for a Lean transformation

Trainings take place in a safe learning environment, guided by energetic trainers with extensive passion and experience in the field! The training can also be delivered in-company, directly linking the theory to your own practice and/or projects.

The Program

During this module, VSM from the Green Belt training is revisited, with a stronger focus on the process rather than the technique. In addition, Project Management is covered, focusing on the knowledge and skills required to lead a project effectively.

In this module, we dive deeper into applying VSM within a manufacturing environment.

This module explores VSM in both office/service environments and development environments.

During this module, you will learn more about VSM in healthcare. In addition, we go deeper into the theoretical background of TPM (Total Productive Maintenance).

This part of the training focuses on the so-called soft skills. The statistical components of the program are also covered.

Practice, practice, practice.

The challenge, with your international IIBLC Black Belt certification (theoretical part) as the prize.

During this follow-up day, you will present the progress of your own project. The key elements of this presentation are interaction and intervision, learning from each other.

With previous groups, this day was often combined with a company visit to one of the participating organizations in the training group.

During the second follow-up day, you will give a final presentation on your own project. This presentation focuses on sharing project information related to tools used, results achieved, and the process itself. There is room for questions and discussion.

With previous groups, this day was often combined with a company visit to one of the participating organizations in the training group.

After a four-eyes review by Masters in Lean, the candidate may submit the improvement project to IIBLC if the report is sufficiently developed. An independent (international) IIBLC jury then assesses the report (the practical component). Upon successfully completing both the theoretical and practical parts of the Black Belt, the program is officially completed.

Coaching for Maximum Impact

o get the most out of the program, we strongly recommend taking advantage of coaching by one of our (Master) Black Belts. This allows you to apply the training more effectively, which enhances your learning. We firmly believe that Lean theory only truly sticks when you put it into practice, which is why we offer the option of coaching. Based on our experience, we recommend a minimum of 1.5–2 days of coaching per project. The cost is €1,200 per day (excl. VAT).

How does this coaching work?
At Masters in Lean, we use a “strip card” system. You can purchase a strip card* that includes 4 coaching hours, meaning 4 strips for €600 (€150 per hour). You decide how many strips you want to purchase, which determines your budget. Naturally, the number of hours also depends on your development needs, which we can estimate together.

You can choose a personal coaching session on-site, for which there is a minimum of 4 hours (4 strips). Another option is coaching via phone or Skype. In this case, there is no minimum, and each hour counts as one strip.
